Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 230
JOIN TROOP 230 FOR OUR ANNUAL FAMIY CAMPOUT
SEPTEMBER 28, 29 & 30, 2007
LOCATION and DIRECTIONS - PIKE NATIONAL FOREST - BADGER FLATS
From Woodland Park – travel west on Highway 24 through Florissant and Lake George. From the Charter School at Lake George – travel approximately 6.5 miles to the “Tarryall State Wildlife” sign on the right hand side of the road; follow the sign, turning RIGHT onto Road 31. Go over the cattle guard and travel approximately one mile and look for the “Firewood Cutting by Permit Only” sign and turn RIGHT immediately after the sign. This is a rough & rutted forest service road.
You will come to a wire “gate”, open the gate, drive through and CLOSE the gate behind you.
We will be camping on the left after you go through the gate! There are several campsites suitable for tents and/or those “Holiday Inn” campers (ie: RV’s, Motor homes or pop-ups)
Travel time is approximately 35-40 minutes
POT LUCK ON SATURDAY EVENING
Hamburgers will be provided (or bring something of your choice to throw on a grill)
Please bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share!
COST
CAMPING IS FREE – SINCE WE’RE IN THE NATIONAL FOREST - HOWEVER FOR THE SAME REASON THERE ARE NO RESERVATIONS! THEREFORE, several Scout Leaders will be going out early on Friday to set up camp & “stake our claim” on some additional camping spots, BUT, we need a count of those planning to attend so they know how many spots to claim.
THIS IS DRY CAMPING – NO FACILITIES – NO WATER – NO ELECTRICITY AND
NO CELL SERVICE - So plan accordingly!
MISC:
This is a family campout and therefore we encourage you to come AS A FAMILY – bring the whole gang! If you have sporting events or activities to attend on Saturday, we’re close enough you can drive back into Woodland Park during the day and join us for the Pot Luck Saturday night! This is National Forest with lots of trails for Hiking, biking & 4-wheeling and lots of places we can set up games – bring your outside games with you for all to enjoy!
IF you don’t camp as a family, come out for the day and bring food to cook & share on Saturday evening and spend some time getting to know the other families in our Troop!
IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN DOING A GROUP BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY?
I will be happy to plan the menu (omelets or pancakes or something else?) and assign food items to families to bring and help cook – IT WILL BE FUN!
SHARON STACKHOUSE @ 686-8614 leave a message is I’m not available!
We have a large burner/grill/griddle cooker that we can cook a lot of food on!!
