Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 230

J-Don Cabins / First Class Advancement Weekend

On the weekend of 02 Mar - 04 Mar, 2007, we will be staying in the old J-Don cabins at Camp Alexander in Lake George, CO.  These are primitive cabins with wood burning stoves and 4 twin bunks in each cabin.  We have reserved all 4 cabins, 3 for the boys and 1 for the adult leaders.  Approximate cost of the trip should be around $12.00 per boy plus food.  Final price will be determined once the number of boys attending is known.  More information about the J-Dons can be found here under Year Round Camping.

We are planning this weekend to be an Advancement Weekend.  An Advancement Weekend is an outing that provides for the boys the opportunity to obtain most all of the skills that are required to advance in a certain rank.  The goal over this weekend is to provide, through a number of different "skill stations", the opportunity for each Scout to fulfill whatever skill requirements they need for the First Class Scout rank.  If an individual scout has already reached this rank, then we will be asking them to help teach at some of the stations and to share their skills with the other scouts.  This will help those boys with their Leadership skills.

The skills training this weekend should not take up much of the boys time as most of the boys are fairly well on the way to reaching their ranks.  We are just trying to get them all there by the close of this activity.  There will still be ample time to play in the snow and have fun while being able to sleep in a dry, warm cabin.  Permission slips for this outing can be downloaded here as well as on the Parents page.
